cPanel account transfers

Posted by Foxy Commerce, 04-24-2012, 04:48 AM
I have just signed up with site5 and need to transfer 25 accounts from one host to another but I have never done this before and am a bit nervous to say the least. Are there any tutorials or a if anyone could give me a step by step guide then that would be great. Thanks. PS I know they do 25 free transfers but I have 50 accounts in total.

As far as i know, they transfer 25 accounts for free and above than 25 will be charged as 1$/Account. Communication is the key,

I was told after the 25 free accounts there is no option to pay for extra accounts to be transfered. I wouldnt have had any objections to paying the extra though being able to do it myself would still come in useful.

Well if they are both Resellers use the cPanel transfer. unless they don't offer WHM. (I was informed about this by a client). cPanel WHM > Transfers > Copy an account from another server with account password > Domain Name Server to copy from (IP or FQDN): The Server IP. Username to copy: User's password: Give new account an IP address: Permit fallback to old system (see above): Tick I used to get the Backup tar.gz and download it, re upload the homedir to public_html, then do the mysql databases myself as it gave me something to do but it takes longer.

Thanks I'll give that a try.

I don't think you will be able to use WHM->Transfers with site5 ... let us know.

No site5 dont have that option

Why move to a host that limits to 25 cPanel accounts? Not a good sign. <> Serious, it isn't that difficult to be honest. The boring part is just waiting for the transfer to complete. If they don't allow you to do cPanel to cPanel transfers, you can just ask the old host to tar the backups for you and then ask the new provider to wget them from new server. Have you asked them to move 50 Accounts for you? What is their reply?

Well I spent ages looking for a host I felt comfortable with, the only reason I'm leaving my current host is because the price is just getting too much as my account base grows. I need reseller with at least 50GB of diskspace and 500GB bandwidth for less than £30 a month ideally. And in the UK. I have already had to relent on the R1Soft Backups as none of my top two use it. Another concern was the price of aditional IP addresses which some hosts seem to charge a lot for. I currently have a 30 day free trial with site5 with no accounts on thier yet so doesnt matter if I do find another host in the mean time as long as I can be 100% confident in thier support and services.

What you can do is make cpanel backups on your old server then copy them to your main account at site5. Then put in a ticket to do a restore of those accounts. They will do it this way for you.

I asked on live help and they just said they would do the 1st 25 but after that they would not do any more and they dont offer an option to pay for extra transfers.

If you increased your budget to £35-45 you could get a VPS with that much storage/bandwidth and also have an offsite backup account to backup your data to using cPremote.

How do you know? They told OP they wouldn't transfer them.

Tried a VPS once before and it just looked too complicated to create different reseller accounts etc (was just testing it out) and the host (cant even remember who it was now) wasnt very helpful.

The first thing was need to do a search on wht and on google. Why not check offers section? List some good UK Providers, talk to them what they are offering, ask them full details what you actually require etc.... I am surprised about that, because most of host now a days transfer accounts for their customers 50 or more than 50, some of them will transfer accounts for you for free even after that 50 accounts range. Some Hosts do transfer all accounts for your first time and then charge few buks for after accounts transferring. Site5 is a big host and i was assuming that they can transfer for you too for free or for some buks! really wired!

VPS is no different really. The host can just provide you with reseller access only. Only root access is available if you need it (good for when transferring in accounts from other providers, etc).

You can get a Managed VPS with 40 to 45 range. Just get a managed vps and start serving your customers in a different way and all the headache will be for VPS Provider

I'm just waiting for Future Hosting now to get some more UK VPS available, hopefully it wont be too long now

The Cpanel Transfer function only works if you have full access, resellers account dosent have such a function enabled

go with Knownhost, i assure you your issues is being handled. they are a managed provider

you can do backup from cpanel and restore to another cpanel to transfer all the accounts and data as well

Site5's response is surprising to say the least. I've seen other hosts charge for account transfers after a particular level, that's nothing new, but to have a set cap of 25 with no paid option to extend that is unusual. Have you asked them about restores outside the initial 25? I'm curious as to how they would handle a single restore request that occurs a few months after your initial purchase, would they refuse outright? If yes, I would look elsewhere for hosting since this would leave you unable to setup new accounts that expect a restore from a full backup.

I've already cancelled my account with them now and just waiting on Future Hosting to get a UK VPS for me as they have sold out of UK VPS accounts. Hoping they will have one within 4 days but its starting to look very doubtful.

Actually, that is a root only function that cannot be delegated to resellers
