Traditional NAS setup?

Posted by tremens64, 05-22-2007, 04:23 PM
I am researching a NAS to be included on a new 4 server setup. This is my undereducated thought. Instead of running RAID 5 or 10 on each server I would run a smaller RAID 1 for OS and applications on each server then have RAID 10 on the NAS for all the IIS & MSSQL files/data. Is this the best (yes subjective word)/ a good way to leverage a NAS configuration. I know that some load applications on the NAS but am wondering if that would a) put unnecessary strain on the NAS and b) in a NAS failure the server would still be able to boot, sans (pun intended) files of course.
