Bind Zone Limit

Posted by SPaReK, 10-05-2007, 11:44 AM
I'm curious if there is a limit to the number of DNS zones that Bind can read. Is there a limit to where performance starts to become an issue? Would Bind be able to handle 10,000 DNS zones? What about 20,000 or 30,000? I seem to recall reading something that said Bind was only able to read a particular number of zone files. But I don't remember where I read that, and it may have been several years ago. I'm just wondering if there is a limit. Thanks

We are already has: # grep zone /etc/namedb/named.conf |wc -l 13548 may be have limit for 2 byte integer - 65000 domain. Or may be 32000 I do not know. 13000 work fine.

There are other open source and free authoritative dns servers you can use that have designs that have no apparent limits on the number of zones. Or, at least, not in real practice. A couple of these are used as root servers for cctld's. As far as I know, both projects are European based. One being the Netherlands.
