Hello, Which is better? CSF or APF and Why ? CSF : http://configserver.com/cp/csf.html APF : http://rfxnetworks.com/apf.php

they are both good. CSF has the advantage that can be used with cpanel/whm

I'm currently using CSF on all my servers and I've no certain problems with it so far. It comes with lfd and it detects processes which causes high loads on the server. I haven't tried APF before so I can't provide you with a comparison here.

Another vote for CSF. We had used APF for a long time but CSF's GUI and constant upgrades and extras make it a winner in our book.

I have no control panel software, and I use APF, and I've had no issues with it, other than having to turn off the PKT_SANITY_STUFFED option, which incorrectly blocks valid internet IP addresses. (It incorrectly assumes no ISP uses a subnet mask larger than a class C for one subnet). On the downside, it doesn't seem to be updated very often. To be honest, I can't remember what the problem with CSF was when I tried it, as it was a while ago, but I know I didn't even get as far as installing it successfully, so it was an easy choice for me.

CSF is more than a firewall, it includes a security suite with many features specially for cPanel Servers, but it also can be installed in no-control panel servers, it has a generic installation script for this kind of servers. APF is just a firewall that works on almost every server, with control panel or without.

I like csf, use it for cpanel and cpanel less servers. One of the feature i use most is blocking IP if connection limit exceeded specified limit.

APF really doesn't need to be updated often because it and CSF are not firewalls. They both use iptables, which is the actual firewall. CSF and APF just manipulate the functions of iptables, we use APF on all of our servers and it works great in combination with the APF Anti-dos and BFD to detect brute forces.

Both APF and CSF are good.

CSF all the way. Lots of features and tools all in one. It is one of the first things I install on new server setups. Chirpy is a good person to deal with, he listens to and considers all suggestions and feedback. Not saying Ryan isnt a good guy but CSF has APF way beat on everything. Apf may have some more advanced firewall rules but most users have no use for them. Csf is way better for ddos too. Its just all around a good firewall and security script. I credit CSF for helping me develop and sustain a good ddos protection system on the server level.

Hi I have used both, and both are good in there own rights. For instance: On Cpanel Server's I have used CSF. On std servers I have used APF. APF has also just been upgraded to incorporate known IP's from the likes of spammers and hackers (quite useful). Thanks
