Best PHP IDE for the MAC?

Posted by iTom, 04-29-2011, 04:55 AM
Hi, What do you guys think is the best PHP IDE for the MAC? Have been using Zend Studio on Windows, however wondering whats the best since my OS move. Like Textmate, but it's too simple, would like some code completion as well Thanks!

The best IDE would probably still be Zend Studio if you are on a PC, Mac or Linux system as it works across all three platforms. There are not many that come close to it's feature set currently. Not a big fan of them using Eclipse and PDT as a base instead of a more custom IDE design and backend but it does currently get the job done. If your not using Zend Studio there is also NetBeans, TextWrangler and a few more listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PHP_editors

I use TextMate for Mac... and it does have code completion.

JetBrains have a PHP plugin for their IDEs (IntelliJ & PHPStorm etc.). It's really nice to work in, and I'd argue that it has all the features of Zend Studio and a few more.

Really didn't know that, I will have another look at it.

TextMate all the way. I've been using the trial for 30 days and it's just awesome. Haven't been assed to buy it yet, though.

I am using Coda and it is really great and super fast. I am also the owner of Zend Studio but it takes up to much memory and it is therefor pretty slow and a older computer.

Using NetBeans at the moment, actually quite like it so far... will see how it goes. Yeh Zend can be a memory hog, however got quite a bit so not really an issue.

Netbeans is nice -- I still prefer to code in an editor like textmate though! Zend studio is just too slow when I have 6 or 8 different things going on!
