ftp+sql backup/restore application needed
Posted by DevNine, 05-02-2011, 06:51 PM |
Hi,
I'm looking for an application that will allow me to make backups of multiple sites (ftp and sql) and easily allow me to restore.
I had a look at sitevault which appeared to be the ideal solution however I found the software poorly written, without updates for years and crashed frequently. Anyone got recommendations for an app that can do what I need? Thanks.

Hello,
Personally I use a cronjob that will generate a sql / file backup of each website and dumped to my dropbox account, works extremely well. I tar.gz each sql file as well to save space. You can then manage your backups from any machine with internet access which is quite nice. Cronjobs are your friend
Theres many guides online how to do this... just need to tar your folders then dump the databases then mv them to the dropbox folder you setup. Dropbox indeed can be installed without a gui on a linux machine if you're wondering, many guides online on how to set it up. Post back if you have any questions and ill be happy to answer them.

Thanks however I'm looking for an application as opposed to a set of scripts.I was to have a restore being as simple as clicking one button, the same for a backup
Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello,
You can always look into r1. You can find info at: http://www.r1soft.com/

yeah, but r1soft is expensive as hell, unless they changed their pricing lately(haven't checked in a while).
usually, hosting control panels all have these backup solutions built in, like directadmin and cpanel, etc...
