Question about Intel Quad-Core Xeon processors

Posted by dawhb, 05-25-2008, 07:00 AM
Hi guys, I've spend some time today in reading about different Intel based processors. I'm learning fast (I didn't know too much about chips... untill now ) but there is something I still need to ask, since I didn't find an answer. So: Which Quad-Core Xeon processor (from low cost ones) do you like more? ... Kentsfield, Yorkfield, Clovertown, Clovertown" (low voltage), Harpertown, Harpertown (low voltage). From waht I saw I could guess that Clovertown is the most popular...?

Clovertown is cheaper as its old. Harpertown is best out of that lot

The Kentsfield is pretty cheap, but I'd much rather get a Harpertown as they're very good.

You may find the following useful: http://compare.intel.com/pcc/default...0+body_compare The lower-mid end of the E54xx series are good balance of performance & cost.

Harpertown the best in Quad Xeon but I would suggest you to go with AMD Opteron 2200 Serie I used Quad Xeon to host 185 accounts , the load average is : 1.00 2.00 ... when I switch to AMD O 2216 the load average is : 0.3 0.5 0.8 ... with Xeon the load easly go up to 2 and 3 with AMD is always less than 1.00
