atlantic.net VS rackspace.com

Ok so I am going through all the cloud hosting companies, features, and prices trying to figure out the best solution and came across something a bit strange. Both rackspace.com and atlantic.net have the exact same pricing plans for their cloud hosting. Can any one explain what is going on here? Are they both somewhat affiliated? Is someone leaching of the other? If so who is the original host here?

I have accounts with both providers and they are quite different from a support and feature standpoint once you sign up for their service. Quite a few hosting providers have similar or the same plans, so I wouldn't base a judgment on that . So, with that being said, I prefer Atlantic.Net's Cloud for the following reasons: 1) Much faster build times 2) Faster hard drives 3) Cheaper bandwidth 4) Faster turn around times for support (and somewhat friendlier) Aside from the above reasons, I also had some problems with Rackspace's Windows Servers (freezing, etc). Luckily, I mostly run Ubuntu and CentOS servers I'm pretty sure they are not related at all since Rackspace is a publicly traded company and Atlantic.Net is a private company. Also Rackspace's cloud runs on Xen and Atlantic.Net's uses KVM. Let me know if you have any other questions about either provider and I'll do my best to answer.

If they are affiliated or linked in some way, I can almost say (99%) sure that rackspace is the original / parent company. Rackspace is a very big provider and has been around for awhile and has earned there respect and clients each way I see it. I personally believe for cloud hosting that it all depends on your needs & requirements and what your trying to do within the service your choosing. What features are included, etc and the limits and terms of the service, overall thats how I look at cloud hosting for the solution I would choose. I personally have never tried Atlantic.Net's services before, but I have fooled around with a Rackspace cloud enviorment and still use one today for a personal use, but I do not own the service I only am a admin on the cloud for a buddy of mine and I can say, he's never had a problem that I've known of and I have been managing his services for about 6 months now and it's never had a downtime or a hardware problem yet, *knocks on wood*. Very fast speed, fast hdd, and we've had quite fast response times via support. I would give em both a very detailed look and see what you can get out of both in features and requirment wise, ya know.. The bang for your buck.

There are quite a few more out there which is totally better than Rackspace in terms of Cloud Hosting but then again if you're comparing both, I guess Rackspace would get my vote coz till this day, I've not known Rackspace to have bad support or something like that yet. They are quite fast/good when it comes to getting help from and etc. Take care and good luck.

Atlantic.net has been around since 1994. I don't know about their VPS but I used Atlantic.net services during 2000-2001 and they were very good at that time.
