Ensim WebHosting Software - Reviews?

Posted by spcover, 09-29-2000, 11:26 AM
I have a local ISP/data center that I've ignored for years. Years ago when I started in this business, they didn't have any redundant connections to the internet backbaone and seemed a bit unprofessional from the looks of things. I've been hosting my sites elsewhere. Well, they've upgraded their facilities and built a very nice data center from what I hear. And they now have redundant connectivity. The point is that for the last year they've been trying to get me to move my hosting business (I'm a reseller right now for two companies) and all my clients to their site. At first (a couple of months ago) they were pushing Raq2's and I told them forget it. Now they're telling me they can put me on a linux box with Ensim software for $100 a month. And they're telling me this Ensim software is better than Alabanza's. My friend at the local ISP said the rack would be a Pentium II 600Mhz machine with 128MB RAM or so and a 20GB hard drive and they would just allocate me a dedicated portion of that hard drive. I forgot to query him but it sounds like virtual hosting without dedicated IP addresses. I've been to Ensim.com and they have lots of software for webhosting ISPs, including rackmounted equipment. This must be what the guy is talking about. I'm all confused. I don't have that many clients. I support about 25 domains and about half of them are my own. But my client list is growing and I expect it to pick up. Generally my hosting fees come out to about $150 month so far but those will increase as well, I'm sure. I can use some advice on two things: 1) Ensim Webhosting Software - I could swear it's gotten good reviews. Anyone use it? 2) Anyone have experience with the Ensim hardware? 3) I need some info on linux rack-mounted boxes. What do I have to know about them? 4) What questions should I be asking this guy? I don't like the whole smell of it. But right now I can't afford to move to a $200 Linux box at catalog.com. I really like Alabanza and was hoping one day to move up from being a reseller for an Alabanza-supported host to getting my own Alabanza server, but with the way Alabanza increased their costs recently I can't see that happening. I'd prefer not to do anything stupid just because it's cheaper. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance. Sean

You might do a search on this forum by that name as I remember somebody saying something good about it awhile back ago.
