Is it considered spamming if you ask web hosting company to go to a site any post thier reselling plans up? for example, I have (a site) and I want hosts to put thier resellign plans up for others to see.. like receller.com just wondering hehehe Chicken 1. Web hosting companies are NOT allowed to open new topics in the Web Hosting forums regarding their hosting services, nor are they allowed to start survey or polls. /Chicken [Edited by Chicken on 09-29-2000 at 03:18 AM]

No, but your site looks like a profit type site not an informational type site. [Edited by MikeA on 09-28-2000 at 01:00 PM]

The term spamming is misused a great deal, including here. When someone makes an inappropiate commercial post, it is not spamming. It's inappropriate advertising, plugging, but it is not spamming. By the very origins of the term, an essential component is the bulk part. Posting an ad in a forum does just not qualify as spam. It may be just as undesirable, but spam it isn't. There's a definition of it on Spam Canners at http://members.tripod.com/~SpamCanners/directory.htm Its origins are included, as well as a sound clip taken from its origins (a Monty Python sketch).

Even if you have convinced *yourself* that it's not spamming, there is still a chance that a company might disagree and decide to publically shame you. (no, not really). If you want to play it safe, you can just write specific emails to each company requesting that they post their plans. You might consider giving them a compliment about their website as well. That way they know that you really browsed their site.. and didn't just nab their email addy. Matt mlightner@site5.com
