Preparing for a big website launch.... how?

Hi all, One of my clients is preparing to launch their company and take their product from beta to 1.0. Their launch date is the end of the month and on that day they will be sending a mailout to 10,000 subscribers - in addition to this they will also make press releases to a wide variety of sources. They have indicated that they want to make sure that their website is completely available during this time period. I am wondering how best to scale for this? Right now I have a VPS with 1 CPU core guaranteed (bursting to 4 cores) and guaranteed 2GB Ram that will burst to 4Gb. Additionally there are dual gigabit network interfaces on the box. The system currently has roughly 30 accounts on the server and loads are around 0.05. As this will be the first single big "hit" that the server takes how best can I scale for it? Do I need to cluster? Should I get a dedicated solution? How much is 10,000 hits at one time for a server to handle?

Oh forgot to mention that the hard drive solution is running RAID 10 Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) Storage Arrays

I strongly recommend utility hosting such as Amazon's EC2. You'll only have to pay for 1 server, but can scale as you need to (and automatically if you set that up) when and if you get the traffic which requires more servers. 10,000 hits at one time for a server is an incredibly large number. But it's very unlikely that they'll all be at the same time. How difficult it is for your server to handle all depends on what you're serving.
