Cloud App

Is anyone using the Cloud App that apple has where you can drag and drop your files from your desktop onto the cloud bar and publish them either privately or publicly? If you haven't, I highly suggest this download if you use file sharing!

Yep I've got it. But the free version limits to like 10 uploads a day

Oh .. how much is the upgraded version?

its just a rebranded me.com - they have been sending me emails about this for quite some time.. it appears to be a slicker interface, etc - but, I have been publishing files, storing files, albums, private/public and much more with me.com for years already.. some of the cool drag and drop features are new - but, the underlying functionality is the same - I think apple is just cashing in on the cloud marketing ploy..

Oh interesting! I've never used me.com.

its awesome actually - looking at the email they sent me, looks like a few things are being added to their new service - and seems like you can seamlessly migrate from me.com to their new cloud service and me.com is going to go end of life..

It's run by Apple, and used to cost $100 a year. It might be cheaper or even free depending on Apple's new cloud offerings it is rolling out.

I dont think the price is going down for the new service - though, I think they are giving me a free year or something when I signup for the new service, migrate my me.com account and then close it down or something

Oh is that the mobileme where it sync's all your data across devices?

Posted by Appdeveloper, 06-23-2011, 07:30 AM
iCloud keeps your devices in sync with each other. Ex: If I make a note on my iPad, it automatically shows up on my iPhone. If I edit it on my iPhone, the changes automatically appear on my iPad. Everything happens behind-the-scene, "it just works". Also, I believe that Mac OS X Lion is to implant iCloud, too. Keeping my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone in sync will be great; especially with iPages. @op what app are you talking about? I don't believe iCloud supports drag-and-drop support, but it would be great if they did. I would purchase a lot more storage (considering it's a one-time payment, or a yearly payment).

Hi appdeveloper, search for Cloud App for your desktop or laptop via Apple store . Its free and separate of iCloud. This is merely a file uploader from your desktop to the inet via a free software from Apple. It creates a tiny url for you to post asap and what not.

Are you talking about the app "Cloud" in the Mac App Store?

Posted by Techy, 06-23-2011, 07:41 AM
I'm on my mobile so I can't see bc its a Blackberry (for 2 months more anyway hehe). Yes it is called Cloud App so Cloud probably is it. All it does is go into your top tool bar where the WIFI connections, bluetooth, laptop power supply are, as a Cloud. Say you take a screen shot and want to share it, you grab the SS from the desktop and drag it onto the Cloud icon. Then, you'll see the cloud go gray to black and "DING". Click ctrl+v and it'll show a URL for the SS. You can make the URLs private or public.

I got it. Clicked download on the Mac App Store and had it installed and running in less than a minute. Seems to be extremely useful. Just drag a file to the icon, and it's automatically uploaded and the URL copied to my clipboard. Are all file types supported? Also, how long will my files be available for download?

Well free version I believe is 10 a day not 100% on all files haven't tried that many! Glad you like it!

Posted by Appdeveloper, 06-23-2011, 07:56 AM
On the free version, you can only upload 10 files per day and the max file size is 25MB. On the pro version, you can upload an unlimited amount of files and the max file size is 250MB. The pro version seems like a great deal for only $45/year. The only thing stopping me from upgrading is how unorganized it is. If I were to upgrade, I'd backup EVERYTHING (all my icons I make in photoshop, all my xcode projects, etc). It would be extremely unorganized, I can't even find a SEARCH button on their site to search for certain files.

Well if you click the icon your entire portfolio shows up of what you uploaded. From there you can filter by size, date, and even rename your photos. Its extremely organized for me!

I am recently having issues now can anyone assist. I have set the uploads to "public" so when I drag to the cloud and drop the sound (bing) goes off and URL created. However, if I try to give it to an external user (the link that is) they say 'it cannot be found'. Anyone experiencing this issue?
