A new reseller business

Posted by fmgrush, 07-18-2003, 08:12 PM
If you want to start a new business offering hosting solutions, but you don´t have any background... Ok, I decided to order a reseller program but I do not have my site build. Is there a hosting provider that helps with a templete or something?. If I don´t know how to setup the code that will manage credit cards etc. where I have to start after I decided the provider?... Welcome to the forum, fmgrush... First of all, don't be shy. Ask a lot of questions to find out how to do things. Since you say that you have chosen a provider (presumably for a reseller account) you should really lean a little on that provider for your initial set-up... that's why you are paying them. As far as a template for your site - I don't think you can do much better than looking right here on WHT in the Advertising Forums under Related offers and Requests here To set-up the code for the credit card processing, that should all come from your credit card processing vendor. You need to take a deep breath... don't rush into this. An extra week or two to set things up properly will really help in the long run. You need to turn the tables a little and start thinking about what your customers are going to want from you. You might want to set-up some really god FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) on your website which will answer 95% of your customer's questions) This will leave you more time for closing sales and making... well, making a profit. That IS why we are in business, right? Last edited by 4solutions; 07-18-2003 at 08:55 PM.

It takes time and money :-x for my new launch I am looking at close to 2000$ of investment just to launch it, of course it's going to be on a slightly higher level than a reseller account but it still takes time and money. Ask questions, help will come.

There are lots of places for templates. www.oswd.org is where I get many of mine. They are open source, so they are free and they have a lot of nice CSS templates there which provide a good start (I usually use the template as a framework and build the site from there). Best Wishes

Well first decide on what you want to offer, get your plans, features and costs together. Then complete your site. You can use a template from t e m p l a t e m o n s t e r . c o m or design your own which would be preferable if you have the capacity. Be sure to include a lot of support resources for your clients. Get a 3rd party cc processing account through a place like 2checkout or paysystems. Slowly start submitting your site to search engines and host directories. Be sure that your site is complete and ready to go though without any broken links etc. May the hosting powers be with you and keep your fingers crossed... GL ! Tam

here's my question... If you have no background and no idea about the business, why not start a business that you actually have some background and ideas about? Or am I way outta line here?

Tim, Most CEOs don't know jack about their field That's why people hire sys admins? Just my 2 cents.

Well, that's open to debate ALTCO, but wouldn't you pull things off better if you actually had some ideas about what you're doing?

fmgrush, Good luck man. I started out on a reseller account about a year ago, went through about 5 domains, all bad attempts, but time and patience pays off. Theres a lot of B.S. in this industry, I probably don't know squat compared to the high posters here, but don't take any and just ignore it, It will only set you back in the long run. Good luck again.

I asked a provider about the IP adresses and they answer that on advanced plans they give one dedicated IP and two shered for the own server names. Is this OK? Does most provider work like this or I´ll need dedicated IP´s? What is the diference? Regards and thanks for your advice.

No dedicated IPs would not be necessary on a reseller account.
