reseller location

hello all, great forum! ive been reading through the posts here and been learning from your experience, so thank you all. my question is, does the reseller location have a difference if my clients are on the other side of the globe? (e.g american hosting with european customers)

Sometimes the pings aren't as good. Besides that their really isn't much difference...

Basically, no difference. Just make sure the server you're on is in a good DC with respectable ping times...and you'll be fine. You can be hiding out in the Aussie Outback with a laptop in a cafe..long as you can support it with good service and superior equipment...you'll be fine.

I would say if you ride on Mzima network, you are definitely 30% faster, even to Asia. =) Joshua

thanks joshuayip, do you know of any reliable european hosts worth checking or do you suggest to get a usa based one?

For the average web site, most people won't notice a difference between USA and EU based hosting. For particular sites the extra distance to the USA can cause the page to load slower for EU users, but your basic page won't load all that much slower. However the most important thing is really from a marketing perspective. If your clients are in Europe, then you will have a much easier job selling them European based hosting than selling USA based hosting. It's also something not too many hosts offer (even those legally based in Europe), so you're at an advantage again as you have a competitive edge over your competition. As an example, we get considerably fewer signups from European customers on our USA servers, and have seen a great increase in European sales since we started servers in the UK. So, what you need to do is assess where your greatest market lies, where you think you can more easily market your services, and then the decision as to where you chose to locate your servers/reseller account should be a relatively straightforward one to make.

I think Jo explained it well

Hi DonG, you can check out httpme dot com. Jo's got a point. I never tried doing a traceroute to UK host before. If you are really trying to get clients from UK, of course UK Datacenter is much faster. My country have our own DC for hosting companies too. But I they dont interested me as much. Some dont revise their rates. It has been the most expensive on the face of the earth =) Joshua

thanks (Kualo)Jo and Jo(shua) and coight (for the reference) so in simple words, a medium sized, database driven ecommerce webpage located in EU will render faster than one located in the USA. The marketing tip was a good one too. This a great community. thank you all.

I would pick a US based because most likely the price is going to be better and a lot of the US carriers have lines in Europe as well like Level(3). Just my opinion for you.
