Site5: a 4 year customer here.

You might get lucky and may never have to contact customer support. But when the time comes and you need SERIOUS customer support you can kiss your hopes good bye. Customer support has lied to me a few times. They like to patch holes instead of fix problems. Most of all, their customer support is...HORRIBLE.

I have been using their service for over a year or so but not reseller account though. Looks like you have had quite a few problems with them.

If you've put up with them for that long maybe it's time you should consider a change?

I put up with them for a about 1½ years a few years ago but I can't imagine 4 years, especially as a reseller where you have clients that depend on your service. That's scary!!

It would seem they are going through another rough patch due to some cPanel related issues they have/had, putting a strain on their support.

Although true, I would say the problem was not cPanel, but the fact that they didn't do proper testing before rolling out the latest cPanel updates. When you run such a customized system, it is very important that you make sure your system works with any updates that may be released.

They just did a major server upgrade, included in it was MySQL 5. They crashed three of my databases and then blamed it on my scripts not being compatible. The problem I have with this is that I have multiple instances of the same script running on my server, but only three crashed. If it was an incompatibility issue shouldn't all instances crash? They are just pointing fingers to keep them from having to deal with it, or take blame for it at least.

Hmmm.. Is it because their servers are located at The Planet?? something you guys should think about. http://www.theplanet.com/videos.aspx?video-tabs=2

No excuse really. If they can't keep up to date with new Cpanel builds with their customised version, why upgrade?

Not putting it out there as an excuse, but a possible cause. Often times it's more important to know why something happened, to know what you need to look or look out for. I don't see anything that would point to such a conclusion. After all, if a customer renting servers from you would be providing bad customer support, chances are it would not be your company's fault. Same thing with ThePlanet.

I cannot believe that the Planet would use Site5's CEO to advertise their products!! If and when I needed to move up from my VPS to a dedi, I would have had the Planet near the top on my list but now I wouldn't get a server from them even if it were free!!!!!

The whole Site5 scenario with ThePlanet is fishy. Some kind of deal, maybe an acquisition deal, was done. For the top executives to leave just like that, and for TP to migrate and leave racks and racks of owned hardware colocated at NAC and migrate to paying monthly for dedicated servers.... it just does not make sense. Unless they ran into financial difficulty and had to sell the assets in the hardware? Last time I was in NAC, and this was 2+ years ago, I saw a significant amount of Site5 hardware there.

There's some truth to that, but much of the same old staff is still working at Site5, so while the management is changed, and a special deal of some kind was struck with ThePlanet, it doesn't look like ThePlanet took over, changing the way the company was run. It may be though that key staff involved in particular areas is now gone or filling other positions, explaining how the control panel issue first occurred. In any case, I still don't think ThePlanet should take the blame for it, at least not because "their servers are located at The Planet" as it was suggested.
