Best Company to Use for Reselling Dedicated Hosting

Posted by Create, 11-02-2010, 07:23 AM
I'm looking to start reselling dedicated servers and looking for a data center that takes resellers for dedicated servers. It would be good to get a data center that doesn't sell servers directly to customers and only goes b2b so my clients wont just decide to purchase straight through the data center all of a sudden. I'm looking for both fully managed and just managed hardware. I'm open right now to plans and features just want to try and get a feel for the market and what all the different choices out there which are available. thanks.

Hi You could try burst.net, they have a Reseller program that means you can sell the server you buy from them, make a profit and appear cheaper than they do, so there is no conflict of interest. Personally i havent used them and im sure there will be other companies out there that do the same. Good luck.

singlehop also has a reseller program. http://www.singlehop.com/resellers/ I have no experience them, so I cannot say how good its is.

A vote for SingleHop here, very very good on the technical side, we've not seen any issue with downtime at all as yet. We are a managed service provider and do not require technical support, as such I cannot make comment on their support or management services.

One another vote for SingleHop reseller program. They have really good support. I love it! But couldn't used it. (My bad luck.)

Very unlikely you will find a provider that does not sell direct as well, in fact, I don't think I have ever seen one in the dedicated hosting industry that does that. One main reason, is that most providers started by selling retail, then added a resale program afterwards . .

Most data center providers sell directly to their customers as well, so I don't think you will actually find a dedicated server provider that only resellers to their resellers I would recommend looking at ThePlanet and SoftLayer. *SoftLayer may be expensive, but you have quality. ThePlanet is a very good alternative to SoftLayer and as a reseller you can get very good deals at ThePlanet on server orders. I would recommend speaking with a Sales rep directly to see what they can offer you.

Unless you want to get rack space in a datacenter, you are going to play middleman. You will have to place the server packages on your site, have the client pay you, you pay the dc an have the server setup. Terrible idea because if there are issues you won't know what to tell your customers until you hear from the dc. If you want to sell servers, buy a 10u rack. Put it in Chicago or Dallas, and fill it with servers. It's an expensive venture, but you will be in contact directly with the DC and you will be able to provide the support necessary to make sure your clients are satisfied.

this is the way we would like to head towards, but as of now it isn't an option. once we have grown it is definitely the way we would like to head. question, are there data centers that provide the switches and routers when buying a half or full rack as well as all the other applicances, so we will just need to fill it with servers? if so what are the best ones out there that offer this?

You need to contact the data center that you want to do business with and ask them directly. Major players like Equinix, Coresite, etc.....will not do this. Small to medium size companies typically will work it out with you... . .

I am sure if you were going to fill a half rack with servers (assuming you purchase the servers from the dc) you won't spend anything on routers. Keep this in mind, you don't want to resell for a datacenter because you think clients will go past you straight to the datacenter. If you take a look at BurstNET's reseller program, they discount the servers. So your potential client might think he is being smart going straight to the DC. He will pay more as you can take the discount you get and while still profiting you won't have to charge as much as the DC. That is how you would be able to rent servers to clients who know where yo are getting them. They are getting the same great hardware at a lower price then if they went to the DC themseles. Good luck!
